I had an outstanding meal last night at Pachamama’s in Lawrence. We started with drinks and small plates in the Star Bar, and then moved into the dining room for dinner.
My son started with a beautifully intense blood orange margarita, my husband had a Bloody Mary perfectly spiced (in his book that means HOT) and dotted with olives, and I waded into a bottle of Lang and Reed Cabernet Franc, which we later took to the table.
Oh, how I wish I had remembered my camera! All of the dishes were so artfully presented and, fortunately, they tasted as good as they looked. Favorites of the evening included an airy mushroom tart with chevre and arugula from the bar menu; a burrata cheese, grilled peach and watermelon salad, all dotted with green olive tapenade and lined up on a narrow white plate (each bite piled on the crisp toasts created a different flavor); grilled corn risotto with goat cheese, mango and habanero chile; and the special of the evening, the mixed grill with samplings of shrimp, lamb and beef tenderloin, each an individual, stacked creation.
The service was competent and smooth, the atmosphere contemporary and attractive. It was an ideal venue to celebrate my son’s birthday. But it’s not only for special occasions and I can’t wait to go back.
