I love to cook fun, healthful and stimulating meals, the more unusual the better. Researching which restaurants to visit is also a favorite hobby, and I relish the payoff – visually appealing and palate-pleasing dishes. For years, I have been a resource of friends and family who want to know where to go, where to stay and where to eat. I have parlayed that expertise into a professional venture.
When I travel, the food experience is paramount and takes precedence over most sightseeing excursions. My love for seeking out exciting spots has been instilled in and appreciated by my two sons, whose adventurous spirits have transformed my own journey in the kitchen. It is much more satisfying to cook for an appreciative audience. My husband, Tom, maintains an immense garden of fruits, vegetables and herbs, another important inspiration for my endeavors and a treasure trove during the summer months.
Though an attorney by trade, my love of cooking, combined with my passion for food and travel, led me to turn to food writing, which, according to my friends, is a natural fit. In addition to this blog, I write the print and online versions of the Kansas City Star’s Restaurant Guide, and I contribute regularly to the Star’s Food section. My work has been published on the websites for Sally’s Place and the Kansas City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, including “Jam Sessions”, The VisitKC.blog. You can also find me on Epitourean.com, a culinary travel website that features travel packages I have helped put together. Serving as a regular panelist on “The Food Critics”, a local public radio show, provides one other medium to discuss the restaurant scene in Kansas City.
I am a member of the Association of Food Journalists.
